Optimism Carried Juan to A New Career

Connecting Communities Program participant, Juan H. Becerril, smiling in the hallway of our office, wearing a mask.

In November 2020, Portland entered an extreme high risk category of Covid-19. Restaurants closed their doors, and many people were let go. Amidst all the hardship and confusion, Juan was optimistic and active in his search for work. When an opportunity presented itself at a FedEx warehouse, Juan committed himself to it, and worked with the job developer to schedule an interview with the company.

Overcoming Challenges Through Optimism

Based on his performance in the interview, the company offered him the position. Juan began working as a freight handler the next week, confident that he would be able to perform all job duties and requirements presented before him. He proved to everyone that his confidence was warranted by staying employed with FedEx for 90+ days! He is happy with the work, and is looking forward to a future working with the company.

Great work, Juan! We're proud of you and so glad to see you succeed!
