Beverly's Journey - In Her Own Words

Senior Community Service Employment Program Paricipant Bev Sampson working at her desk.

We love to celebrate and highlight the success of our participants in all of our programs, especially when our participants opt to tell us their journey in their own words.

We asked Bev if she'd be willing to share her experience with us, and the following is Bev's story written in her own words. We hope that you can sense her kind and warm nature as you read!

Bev's Letter

My personal journey with Easterseals Oregon, SCSEP:

While recovering from one of life’s “bumps in the road” I heard about ESO training program for seniors. I called and was connected with the Director of SCSEP Oregon, Deb Sanchez. She is amazing. She took down some of my information and set up a time to meet. We met and that was the beginning of my journey back to a productive life. A blessed day.
I was accepted into the program and placed in a Host Agency at WorkSource in Beaverton. I was offered multiple trainings to enhance my skill level which helped to build my confidence.
After a period of 8 months, I was given another training opportunity to train in ESO administration office as receptionist. This gave me an opportunity to become part of a team, learn more about the history and successes of all the ESO programs. This team is amazing – caring and emotionally supportive.
In addition to advice, guidance and assistance with career planning, ESO has helped me with prosperity planning and housing information. I completed the Oregon Housing Assistance program and was selected for mortgage support. This support helped me to become more self-sufficient which has resulted in a healthier and happy life. Thanks to my Employment Specialist, Carole Wildermuth.
It was recently suggested as part of my employment goal to be assessed through CareerWork$ Medical. After multiple assessments along with a virtual interview, I was one of 15 selected to attend this 8-week course. I am thrilled for this opportunity with the end in mind to work in Healthcare.
Support of this kind has not only enhanced my life but many, many others.
I look forward to the time when I can call and tell them “I have been offered employment”.
My heartfelt thanks to all of you who have made a difference in this chapter of my life.

With deep admiration,

Beverly S
