Adult/Senior Services FAQ

We are always here to answer any questions that you may have about our Adult or Senior Services. Below are some of the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) by families.

General

Are all adult services offered in the home?

While our services are offered in a variety of locations, our Outpatient Rehabilitation is only offered in our North Dallas center.

CLASS Case Management

How does someone get on the Medicaid waiver interest list?

You must contact the Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) by calling 1-877-438-5658 and provide them with the necessary information.  Please note that receiving Medicaid waiver services is not a quick process.  At present, the interest list for these services is approximately 8 – 10 years long.  However, it is important to get your name on the list as soon as possible.

Can someone be on CLASS and another Medicaid waiver program, such as HCS or MDCP, at the same time?

No, there is a list of programs that cannot run concurrently.  A person is not able to have two Medicaid Waiver Programs at the same time.

Does someone have to qualify for Medicaid before they can become a CLASS person?

No, during the process of enrollment for the CLASS program, family income is not taken into consideration when qualifying one for Medicaid.  You do have to have Medicaid to receive CLASS, however, being approved for CLASS is actually what makes one qualify for Medicaid.

Employment Services

I am interested in your Ticket to Work Program.  How do I get started?

Please call Crystal Spoons at 817-759-7967. We will first complete a phone screen and either set up a follow up intake appointment or refer you to another community resource for more appropriate services that will assist you in your job search.

I have a disability and want to go to work. Can Easter Seals help me?

Please give Crystal Spoons a call at 817-759-7967. We will gather information from you and assist you in either accessing an Easter Seals North Texas’ Employment Program or help you with another community resource who can help you meet your employment goals.

Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (WIPA)

Do you work for the Social Security Administration?

Easter Seals North Texas was awarded the Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (WIPA) program from the Social Security Administration (SSA).  We administer the program, but we are not employees of SSA.

Is there a way I can go to work and not lose all of my disability benefits?

Going to work will always increase your available income. Even if the amount of your benefits check goes down, your earned income will more than compensate for the loss.  There are ways to extend your medical coverage as well. Visit with your local Community Work Incentives Coordinator (CWIC) for complete information

I am a social worker/professional. How do I refer clients to WIPA?

Contact Linda Baker by calling 817-759-7929 or lbaker@ntx.easterseals.com and she will send you a referral packet.

What counties does WIPA serve?

Clay, Collin, Cooke, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Erath, Grayson, Hood, Hunt, Jack, Johnson, Montague, Palo Pinto, Parker, Rockwall, Somervell, Tarrant and Wise

How much money can I earn and still keep my disability benefits?

That all depends on what type of benefit you are receiving.  For complete information you should visit with a Community Work Incentives Coordinator (CWIC).

Will you help me apply for disability?

No; we can assist you if you are already receiving benefits and considering returning to work, but we are unable to assist you with the application.  You must contact your local Social Security Administration office or go to www.SSA.gov to apply.

Is there anyone who can help me figure out what I can do to get more money into my household?  My disability check does not cover all my bills.

Yes, the Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (WIPA) program is an employment support service that is designed to enable Social Security beneficiaries to pursue their personal employment and economic self-sufficiency goals.  The Community Work Incentives Coordinator (CWIC) will help you design a customized plan that fits your needs.

Home Care Services

Is there any assistance available to help me and my family pay for this service?

Occasionally, Easter Seals North Texas receives grants and special funds that allow us to assist individuals with their respite and personal care needs at a greatly reduced rate. Please contact Lynn Boyd, Program Director, to see if you may qualify.

How does Easter Seals North Texas screen the employees providing this service?

At Easter Seals North Texas, we take the screening of our in-home care providers very seriously. Prior to hiring, all potential employees must pass an extensive, multi-state background check and pass a drug test. In addition, prior to hire and then each month thereafter, we check to ensure that none of our in-home care providers appear on the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services Employee Misconduct Registry.

Will you come to my house for therapy?
