Autism Spectrum Disorder Services

Easterseals Lonestar provides treatment for children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)—making us the first step toward the help your child deserves.

What is Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a developmental disability that is characterized by challenges in social interaction, communication, and repetitive or restricted interests. Individuals with ASD will often not learn independently without appropriate, effective treatment.* The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that about 1 in 36 school-aged children has been identified with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Learn the Signs of Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism Spectrum Disorder signs might include a child who:

  • Does not respond to his/her name by 12 months
  • Does not show interest in other people
  • Does not speak or has unusual speaking behavior (e.g. repeats words)
  • Obsesses over certain objects or wants to be alone
  • Gets upset by minor changes
  • Avoids eye contact

If you are concerned your child is exhibiting these signs, talk with your child’s health care provider to get a diagnosis.

*This list is not exhaustive; each child is unique and may reach developmental milestones differently

How Do We Treat Autism Spectrum Disorder?

Under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), we utilize the evidence-based strategies of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for the treatment of ASD. This includes treatment in all deficit areas as identified through assessment and observation. The ability to teach new skills and find appropriate alternatives for challenging behavior—documented in a wide variety of peer-reviewed research studies over several decades—has made ABA the standard of care for the treatment of ASD.*
