Israel Zooms On!

Israel zoom 230by230

Before the pandemic required older adults to stay home, Israel was attending Easterseals South Florida Adult Day Care in Pembroke Pines, FL.  Israel kept active by participating in morning exercises and walking.  A myriad of daily activities offered him social engagement and mental wellness.   In the early days after quarantine, Israel’s son and daughter-in-law (whom he lives with) says “He missed the day care”.  They go on to explain that Israel had been declining physically and mentally due to the lack of activities and social interactions.  Once Easterseals implemented structured virtual activities and programs, Israel’s wellbeing returned full force.  “There has been a big change in him!  His eyes light up every time he goes to his Zoom meetings and sees his friends.  He loves to win the bingo games and the trivia questions keep his mind active.” exclaims Israel’s son and daughter-in-law.

Easterseals has been able to meet the needs of older adults through daily telephone outreach to ensure everyone is healthy and safe.  Services are offered virtually and customized to the needs of clients by age, functional ability and cognitive levels.  On a given day, Israel can participate in Non-denominational Spiritual Moments; Communication Skills Workshops; Cognitive Stimulation; Trivia; Painting; Bingo; Book Club; and, Relaxation Exercises.

Our work is made possible thanks to supporters like the Dignity in Aging Funders Collaborative who provided us with a Dignity in Aging Grant to counter social isolation.  ESSF will be able to provide on-going care and services to seniors with memory and cognitive impairment to improve well-being, decrease depression, and enhance quality of life.
