Occupational Therapy

Therapist Social Services

Occupational therapy focuses on improving self-care skills, eye-hand coordination, home safety, strength, and endurance.

Our occupational therapists work with patients of all ages with:

  • Limitations
  • Injuries or other problems of the upper body
  • Restoring a person’s activities of daily living (ADL’s) after surgery, stroke or other acute trauma

A person might benefit from occupational therapy if they are experiencing any of the following concerns:

  • Recently lost the ability to do things s/he used to do, such as dressing or bathing
  • Difficulty with writing, holding a cup or using silverware, such as frequently drops or spills items or trouble holding them
  • Loses track of or forgets medication doses
  • Concerns about home safety, for instance leaving the stove on, the refrigerator open, tripping on rugs, slips, and falls

These services require a referral from a provider and are available to individuals who have a medically necessary reason for services and are currently offered in the Greater Hartford Area.
