The Pottstown Chapter of National AMBUCS, Inc. has generously donated five brand new AmTrykes for use in our outpatient therapy program at our George Street location in Reading. These new trikes replace the existing trikes that have reached the end of their useful life and include several new models not previously available. Our therapists use the trikes when providing physical therapy to children with low muscle tone or paralysis in lower extremities, and children with cerebral palsy who need to build up muscle tone and control. The benefits include increase coordination, improve muscle strength and improve balance.
We now have five models that can accommodate children of different sizes and different physical needs. Two models have rotating handlebars and foot pedals that are connected to the same chain drive. This allows the rider to use their arms to help their legs in propelling the trike forward. Other models are propelled by foot pedals only.
Pictured below is a sampling of images taken when members of the Pottstown Chapter-AMBUCS came to Easter Seals to assemble the five trikes donated by their organization. This hard-working group of volunteers spent a long evening assembling the trikes and making sure they are in proper working order. Several members of the Easter Seals staff also helped with assembly and were walked through the features of each trike and taught how to make adjustments.
