Easterseals Central Illinois Receives the Highest Level of International Accreditation for Autism Services

Only two organizations in Illinois now hold this level of accreditation.

September 16th, 2021 (Peoria, IL) - Easterseals Central Illinois was recently recognized by the Behavior Health Center For Excellence (BCHOE) with its highest level of accreditation for providing excellent services to children and families through Applied Behavior Analysis. This three-year accreditation highlights Easterseals Central Illinois as the leading provider of Autism Services and Applied Behavior Analysis in downstate Illinois.

Easterseals Central Illinois provides comprehensive, collaborative pediatric therapy services to children with developmental delays, disabilities, and other special needs. Over the last decade, the organization has expanded its Applied Behavior Analysis department to meet our community's growing demand for services.  Currently, the CDC estimates that 1 in 54 children are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.

"Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. We work alongside families to identify and address problem behaviors that are impacting their daily lives," said Katlyn Linsley, BCBA and Manager of ABA Therapy at Easterseals Central Illinois. "Common goals for ABA therapy include reducing problem behaviors and improving communication, social skills, attention span, daily routines, and transitions."

ABA Therapy can be provided in various settings, including one-on-one therapy, small groups, classroom-like environments, in the home, via telehealth, or multiple locations. Easterseals Central Illinois also provides parent training to do ABA techniques and interventions in the home. The end goal of therapy is to equip the family to feel competent and confident in working with their child.

Behavioral Health Center of Excellence® (BHCOE®) is an international accrediting body created to meet accreditation needs specific to behavior analysis delivery. BHCOE develops and measures voluntary consensus standards for Applied Behavior Analysis service providers. Its mission is to transform person-centered behavioral health by advancing measurement science, establishing performance-based standards, increasing access to quality care, and leading community collaboration.

While this is the first time Easterseals has sought and received BHCOE accreditation, the organization has been accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Rehab Facilities (CARF) for years. CARF provides accreditation services worldwide at the request of health and human service providers. The CARF accreditation demonstrates Easterseals Central Illinois' commitment to delivering quality rehabilitative therapy services.
