Intergenerational Connections

How to Use

Welcome to both the Generations & Autism Connect and the Grandparents & Autism Connect training modules. This introduction is intended to give you an overview of the contents and information about how this curriculum might be used to enhance your current organization’s volunteer and staff training curriculum. These curricula are intended to enhance the training of older adults who will be volunteering with children with autism or have grandchildren with autism.

These curricula are intended to be used as a portion of a comprehensive training curriculum. The content within these curricula addresses the unique needs of children with autism and are meant to be incorporated within a comprehensive staff/volunteer training calendar.

Modules

These curricula are designed in a modular format. The module, Overview of Autism, should be delivered first. However, modules two through six can be delivered in any order. The flexibility of the curriculum is intended to assist facilitators with their training responsibilities. Each module contains a presentation, a script for the presentation, pre-post test and supporting handouts.

Generations and Autism Connect

Modules 1 – 6 Presentation materials
Modules 1 – 6 Facilitator Script
Modules 1 – 6 Pre-Post Test & Answer Key and Handouts

Grandparents and Autism Connect

Modules 1 – 6 Presentation materials
Modules 1 – 6 Facilitator Script
Modules 1 – 6 Pre-Post Test & Answer Key and Handouts

Pre-post knowledge tests, provided for each of the modules, are designed to assess participant learning from the didactic instruction. Supplementary materials available for each module can be provided to the training participants as deemed appropriate by the professional providing the volunteer training. As a reminder, both Generations & Autism Connect and Grandparents and Autism Connect are designed to be delivered by a professional who has some knowledge and experience with individuals with autism.
