Give from the Heart

We want to share with you today the love story of Joe and Muriel.

They are just one of the many couples who can benefit from your generosity.

Easter Seals North Texas respite care client Joe and Muriel

Joe and Muriel have been lovebirds for more than 67 years. They have lived through it all—Joe serving in World War II, the birth of their five children and the excitement of becoming grandparents.

But, five years ago their life quickly changed.

Joe began noticing that Muriel would forget simple things. One minute she would be baking a cake, and the next she would forget what she had put in it.

Suspecting and feeling that something was wrong, Joe sought advice from a healthcare professional. The doctor confirmed his suspicions…Muriel had Alzheimer’s disease.

Within a flash, Joe became Muriel’s caregiver, never leaving her side for a minute, day or night.

Their outings, including to the grocery store, soon became too much. Muriel would wander off and Joe could not move as fast with his prosthetic leg.

Joe realized Alzheimer’s disease was a different ball game, and that he needed help.

After learning from a community resource that Easter Seals North Texas could help him in their home, Joe gave us a call.

When we met Joe and Muriel, we let them know we were here to help and that we could take care of Muriel so that Joe could get some much needed rest.

Allie, an Easter Seals North Texas provider, relieves Joe for a few hours each week so he is able to socialize with other residents in his senior community without worry that Muriel will wander off. He is at ease knowing Muriel is in the comfort of her own home, watching TV and visiting with Allie.

“The Easter Seals North Texas provider has helped significantly and I am very grateful for her help. She is my lifeblood,” says Joe.

Joe has had a wonderful life with Muriel.

With your help, we can continue being a contributor to the Joe and Muriel love story for many more years.

With your help, we can be a blessing to countless other couples, daughters, sons and families who are taking care of someone with Alzheimer’s disease.

With your help, we can fight Alzheimer’s disease until there is a cure.

November is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month and National Caregiver Month. Won’t you honor Joe and Muriel today with a contribution to Easter Seals North Texas?

Sincerely,

Paul Bischler
Chairman, Easter Seals North Texas Board of Directors
