Sonia Salas
Early Intervention Specialist
Easter Seals Houston

Sonia SalasSonia Salas of Easter Seals Greater Houston has dedicated many years of her life to early intervention services. In addition to working in the Early Intervention Program for 16 years, she has had personal experiences with her own children who benefit from early intervention services.

Salas loves the processes of working with young children who have developmental delays and/or disabilities, and enjoys helping empower their families and caregivers to advocate for their children. Salas finds it unique that Easter Seals’ programs don’t end after early intervention; programs continue throughout teen years as well as adulthood.

Salas’ personal experience with early intervention started with first her son, who was born with torticollis. Because of Easter Seals services and therapy, he was torecollis-free by the time he turned 10 months. Another early intervention success story was with her triplets, who were born prematurely and underwent a lot of therapy. “You would never know that my trio were premature or were ever delayed. We are and will always be so grateful for everything our early intervention program did for our trio and for us,” said Salas.

In Houston, Salas sees a lot of families struggling to get the early intervention services they need because of health care issues, status of citizenship, and loss of jobs. As much as they may need early intervention services, Salas says many aren’t eligible.

Salas is a certified Early Intervention Specialist and has a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies with an emphasis in child development.
