Miriam Nisenbaum
Vice President Children and Family Services
Easter Seals Central Texas (Austin)

Miriam NisenbaumEvery day at Easter Seals Central Texas, Miriam Nisenbaum, who is the Vice President of Children and Family Services, sees major improvements in the lives of children through early intervention. For Nisenbaum, there’s nothing quite like witnessing a child recognize their achievements in performing tasks that they could not do in the past.

Not only is Easter Seals Central Texas one of the only places in the community that provides services for many families who are not able to afford it elsewhere, but it also has the resources and a wide range of expertise to give these families the support and therapy they really need.

Nisenbaum remembers a time when a three-month-old infant who had water on the brain, multiple seizures, and visual impairments came to Easter Seals for the first time. He was enrolled in the early intervention program and made progress. He transitioned to the outpatient clinic. At age three, he could not walk or talk, but now, at eight years old, he is able to walk, communicate his needs and wants, and will be attending camp for the first time this summer. Without the services from Easter Seals, he would probably be in a wheel chair today.

Nisenbaum has worked in a wide range of disability services for over 30 years and has been with Easter Seals for more than 13 years. She has provided direct services and has been an executive administrator for agencies that serve persons with disabilities. She has a master’s degree in social work and is state licensed and nationally certified.
