Spotlight on: Marcus Lewis-Scott and his determination

Marcus Lewis-Scott

Little Marcus may be only 6 but he has the drive and ambition of someone three times his age.

If you're ever in need of a little encouragement and find yourself in the Shreveport area, look up Marcus Lewis-Scott. The 6 year old may have a developmental delay, and have trouble hearing, but he doesn't let that stop him. Marcus’s family was told at a very young age that he would never walk due to his diagnoses and delays. His mother Kim was determined to give Marcus the best opportunity to overcome these obstacles and brought him into Easter Seals Louisiana. Marcus started receiving Physical Thereapy through the EarlySteps program and is currently receiving therapy at Allied Health and at school.

In 2013, Marcus hit a milestone and started walking independently. He now only utilizes his wheelchair on long distances when getting around his community.

"Marcus is a charming, loving, funny, determined young boy" says Marissa Smith, Supervisor of Children's Choice and EPSDT. "His mother Kim believes in him and provides him with the necessary tools to succeed in life. I love meeting with the family due to how much joy Marcus brings to me. He is determined and continues to encourage others to not give up."

Three cheers for Marcus!
