Camp Harmon FAQ

Q: What is your camp staff ratio?

A: At Camp Harmon we have a 3 camper to 1 staff ratio.

Q: What are the cabins like?

A: In each of our 14 cabins we have single beds, a heater and fan for warm or cold days. Each cabin has a bathroom and sink. We have separate shower rooms for boys and girls located near the cabins.

Q: How are the campers supervised at night?

A: We have at least two staff supervising each cabin during the entire night. Additional staff is on call if needed.

Q: What kind of activities are offered during camp?

A: Some of the activities that we offer at camp are: arts & crafts, swimming in our accessible swimming pool, archery, horseback riding, drama, and sports and games. Our program staff have great imaginations and come up with extremely fun activities at camp.

Q: How do we pick a camp session for our camper?

A: Check the camp dates you are choosing for conflicting events in your family’s personal life. Make sure age and disabilities served in the session are appropriate and make sure the camper meets all eligibility requirements. You can also call our camping services office and we can help you find the appropriate camp session for your camper.

Q: Can campers go to multiple camp sessions?

A: Yes. Some campers may wish to attend more than one camp session. Campers will be admitted to additional sessions based on available space. Only one application and medical examination form are required.

Q: What happens if the camp session we want is full?

A: When sessions are full, waiting lists will be maintained. A completed application is required to hold a space on the waiting list.

Q: How old are your camp counselors? Do you train them?

A: All of our staff at Easter Seals Camp Harmon is over the age of 18. We do an extensive background check on each of our staff the week prior to camp starting. We also provide all of our staff with intensive staff training so they are equipped to handle all of our campers’ special needs.

Q: How can we prepare for camp?

A: Register your camper online, as soon as registration opens, to reserve a spot because registrations will be accepted in the order in which they are received, this will include paper applications. Once you have a registration confirmation, make a doctor appointment right away because camper medical forms are due 30 days prior to the camp session (Medical Forms are good for one year). Prior to camp, make sure all camper medication(s), vitamins, herbal or over the counter medication(s) are prescribed by a doctor and are ready to be brought to camp in their original bottles. (Our nursing staff will not administer any medication if it is not prescribed by a physician). To help with lost items, label all clothing and provide a list of belongings.

Q: What should we bring to camp? What should we not bring to camp?

A: All campers should bring a sleeping bag and pillow or sheets with blankets, swimming suit and towel, toiletry items and bathing towels, closed toe shoes, sturdy camp clothing for hot and cold weather, smiles and a singing voice! All campers should leave valuables at home! No cell phones or smoking are allowed at camp and we discourage recreational electronics.
