Community Partnership Promotes Safety and Fun at Angle Lake!

At Easterseals Washington's Angle Lake Child Development Center, a recent donation from the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority is making a significant impact. Their donation, which consists of bike helmets, not only enhances the safety of the children at our center, but also exemplifies the strong community spirit that fuels our mission.

A Commitment to Safety and Well-being

The Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority's generous donation underscores their commitment to community welfare. As Bre Boyce, Public Educator from the Puget Sound Fire Authority explains, "We are always happy to help our community in any way we can. Wearing a properly fitted helmet can prevent head injuries. It is important that kids and adults always wear a helmet when riding bikes." This thoughtful contribution ensures that the children at Angle Lake CDC can now safely enjoy biking during recess, with added protection against potential accidents.

Helmet Safety Tips from the Experts

Ensuring that helmets are worn correctly is crucial for maximizing their protective benefits. The Fire Authority offers valuable tips for helmet safety:

  • Proper Fit: The helmet should sit level on the top of the head and not move around.

  • Straps: Adjust the straps so that they form a "V" shape under the ears.

  • Securing the Helmet: Always make sure the helmet is buckled before riding.

Additionally, Puget Sound Fire Authority emphasizes the importance of being visible when riding on the roads. Wearing bright colors, using lights and reflectors, and obeying traffic signs are essential practices for safety.

A Valuable Contribution

Mandy, the Program Director at Angle Lake Child Development Center, highlights the significance of the Fire Authority’s donation. "This donation provides a vital safety measure for the children at Angle Lake. With these helmets, the children can now enjoy outdoor activities such as biking with the added protection they need." She also notes that such contributions not only promote safety but also reflect the community's support and care for the children at Easterseals Washington's Child Development Centers.

Community Impact and Future Needs

The positive effects of community donations are evident at Angle Lake Child Development Center. Last year's contribution of large motor playground equipment allowed the children to engage in safe and enjoyable physical activities. Similarly, donations of educational materials have enriched the learning experience, enabling the children to explore new concepts and develop essential skills.

Looking ahead, Angle Lake Child Development Center has identified several areas where further support would be beneficial. The center is in need of braille books and individual listening stations to enhance educational programs, as well as additional outdoor play equipment to promote physical fitness and social interaction. Plans to expand the outdoor play area and introduce a greenhouse are also in progress.
