Johnstown, PA, February 27, 2023:  Easterseals Western and Central Pennsylvania invites you to gather four of your besties and form a five-person team to battle it out in a competition of fun, frivolity and finesse in the 35th Office Olympix!  Teams from Summit Bank, Wessel & Co., Somerset Trust Co., Martin Baker America, Inc., and others are already practicing their skills for these competitive challenges.

On Thursday, March 23, 2023, the Olympix kick off with registration at 5:00 PM and the games at 6:15 PM.  As part of the team registration fee, all members will receive dinner, free drinks (photo ID required) and a special Easterseals gift.  Teams are encouraged to dress reflecting this year’s theme of “Under the Sea.”  So, if there ever was a desire to be a great white shark or a flapjack octopus, this is the opportunity!  All funds raised benefit the programs and services that Easterseals provides for individuals with disabilities.

“At Easterseals, the very heart of our mission is helping members of the disability community with the services, programs and activities that are essential parts of living a full, happy and independent life,” states Colleen Felentzer, Communications and Events Specialist.  Colleen continues, “One of those members, who has benefited from our Johnstown speech therapy services, is Sam Thomas.  We are pleased to announce that Sam will be the 2023 Ambassador for the Johnstown Division and we look forward to working with him throughout the year.”

Diagnosed with Down Syndrome at birth, Sam began with Easterseals services at three years of age. Initially, he was only able to say a few words and had difficulty communicating with others. Sam's speech and communication skills have come a long way and continue to develop with weekly sessions at Easterseals.

Sam is a very active high school student, who participates in a variety of sports and engages with many students and teachers throughout the school. Speech therapy is helping Sam learn functional skills to say words clearer and talk in sentences.   His new communication skills enable him to follow directions and prepare for his future more easily.
