Capability innovation means investing in what makes the work stronger. Across Easterseals, that means modernizing data and technology, diversifying revenue, piloting new service models, and expanding strategically where scale strengthens mission performance. 

Strategic Expansion & Consolidation

Selective expansion and consolidation strengthen scale, reduce duplication, and improve long‑term mission durability. Recent examples include:

• Easterseals Community Network: Expanded into Northern Ohio through phased growth across 12 counties.
• Easterseals Midwest: Acquired the Center for Hearing and Speech, extending audiology and speech services across Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois.
• Easterseals Florida: Consolidation created a $50M organization designed to increase operational efficiency and program reach.

Affiliate Leadership & Growth

To support Affiliates pursuing sustainable growth, Easterseals partnered with 6 Levers to launch a leadership cohort focused on strengthening strategic and operational discipline among C-suite teams from Affiliates under $30M in revenue. 

Affiliate leadership teams¹ developed data‑informed three‑year strategic visions, implemented consistent operating rhythms, and strengthened executive accountability.

Participants described the program as “meaningful and relevant” and noted it “prompted us to think in a different way.” Based on the success of the first cohort, Easterseals will launch a second program in 2026 for Affiliates with $12M–$30M in revenue.

The National Office also sponsored a leadership learning series—Navigating Uncertainty: Leading in an Evolving Nonprofit Sector—featuring Suzanne Smith, Founder and CEO of Social Impact Architects, who challenged leaders to examine whether their organizational culture supports growth or limits it.

The series continued with a panel on I/DD Payment System Transformation, featuring Shane Spotss, Founder and CEO at Deon Health; Tracy Gayeski, Chief Health Officer at Catalight Foundation; and Donna Elbrecht, President and CEO at Easterseals Community Network. Panelists offered concrete examples of how value-based payment models have shaped care delivery.

A presentation by Jim Malatras, Chief Strategy Officer and SVP of Education at Fedcap, concluded the series on aligning operational and funding strategy with core competencies to pursue emerging opportunities.

Modernizing Services Through Data  

Integrated data systems can increase efficiency, reduce risk, and strengthen payer and funder confidence.

Easterseals New Jersey partnered with Opening Bell Ventures to integrate service, operational, and financial data into one system. As a result, their centralized platform increases efficiency, improves compliance, and provides clearer insight into outcomes. This investment positions digital infrastructure as essential to mission delivery—enabling smarter decisions, stronger accountability, and measurable impact for the people and communities served.  

"The insights generated through Carehouse [this centralized platform] now inform our most critical decisions, strengthening fiscal discipline, improving operational alignment, and positioning Easterseals New Jersey to expand impact with confidence," said Aleisha S. Hart, Chief Operating Officer. "It has become a competitive advantage in how we sustain and scale our mission."

AI-Enabled Service Documentation

Easterseals Southern California is piloting AIVA (AI Voice Assistant) to reduce administrative burden and accelerate employment outcomes. AIVA is a voice‑enabled documentation tool that helps Employment Specialists capture service delivery information in real time—allowing more focus on employers and participants, and less time on paperwork. 

Built through a cross‑functional initiative spanning Employment Services, Information Technology, Risk Management, and Enterprise Program Management, AIVA converts conversational input into structured documentation, guides specialists through required fields, and syncs approved data directly to Salesforce. The system maintains HIPAA compliance, enterprise security standards, and human review at every step.
