ANNISTON

Easterseals Opportunity Center offers mobile assessment, where an evaluator visits area schools to assess academic achievement, aptitudes and interests in order to help clients set vocational goals and make training and rehabilitation services decisions.


BIRMINGHAM

Easterseals of the Birmingham Area provides programs for children that include:

  • Speech-Language Therapy - Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) address comprehension and expressive language impairments, articulation disorders, fluency disorders, voice/resonance disorders, oral motor impairments, as well as feeding difficulties. Our SLPs provide evaluation, treatment, and caregiver training to address the unique needs of each child and family.
  • Pediatric Feeding Therapy - Pediatric feeding therapy at Easterseals of the Birmingham Area is designed for infants, toddlers, and adolescents who have a variety of feeding and swallowing difficulties, including dysphagia, Failure to Thrive, feeding-tube dependency, oral motor difficulties, and food/oral aversion. We work with the child's medical professionals to ensure an interdisciplinary approach to the feeding disorder.
  • Physical Therapy - Physical therapy addresses a wide range of developmental gross motor delays (e.g. walking, climbing stairs), positioning, and mobility needs. Therapy may target improved motor coordination or increased range-ofmotion for functional, motor skills. When a child receives physical therapy at Easterseals of the Birmingham Area, the therapist will also assist with referrals for orthotics/braces, wheelchair fittings, and other orthopedic concerns.
  • Occupational Therapy - Occupational therapy focuses on improving a child's fine motor skills including grasp, handwriting, hand strength, bilateral hand strength, and coordination. Occupational Therapists also address sensory disorders which include difficulties with itchy clothing, loud noises, food aversions, attention and difficulty sitting still.
  • Sensory Room - The Sensory Room at Easterseals of the Birmingham Area is designed to help children with a variety of needs and conditions, including but not limited to: sensory, visual, tactile, proprioceptive, and vestibular issues.
  • A Medical Assistance Grant offered through Easterseals of the Birmingham Area helps individuals and families pay for medical equipment and necessary home modifications for children and adults who have disabilities and are unable to provide for their own needs.

JACKSON'S GAP

Easterseals Camp ASCCA, a nationally recognized leader in therapeutic recreation, provides camping experiences for children and adults with disabilities.


MOBILE

For Infants and Toddlers

Early Intervention Services are offered by Easterseals Camp ASCCA Goodwill Easterseals of the Gulf Coast

Infants and toddlers with special needs receive Early Intervention Services to enhance their early development. These services include special instruction, physical, occupational and speech therapies, nutritional consultations and other family supports. Services are provided in the home, at the child's daycare center or other locations in the community.

For Preschool and Elementary

Easterseals Camp ASCCA Goodwill Easterseals of the Gulf Coast (Mobile) operates two inclusive child development centers in Mobile, where children of all abilities receive high quality instruction with small child-staff ratios.

Easterseals Camp ASCCA Goodwill Easterseals of the Gulf Coast (Mobile) also conducts a nationally certified home visitation program known as Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY); a First Teacher Program that provides bi-weekly home visits to families with children birth to five, living in underserved communities; and family literacy visits.

MONTGOMERY

Easterseals Central Alabama offers these programs for children:

  • The ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) Diagnostic Clinic located at Easterseals Central Alabama features a team of specialists including a speech pathologist and a child psychologist.
  • Ready Readers Dyslexia Testing and Therapy
  • Pediatric Occupational Therapy
  • The Care Project at Easterseals Central Alabama helps people acquire no-cost medical equipment that has been refurbished, repaired and sanitized.
  • The Speech Therapy Department at Easterseals Central Alabama serves all ages with communication challenges.

Dogs on Call (DOC) trains and certifies Therapy Dog Teams (teams must live within 75 miles of Montgomery and we visit within the river region) to provide comfort to those living with disabilities, suffering trauma or stress, at-risk, or living in nursing and assisted living communities, hospitals, rehabilitation, and youth detention centers. Specialized DOC Teams work with children with autism and other disabilities, and special needs families in goal-oriented therapy as well as therapy and service dog placements. DOC also partners with public and alternative schools for in-school curriculums designed to teach compassion and responsibility, improve focus and stimulate learning.


MUSCLE SHOALS

Easterseals Northwest Alabama provides therapy programs for children that include:

  • Occupational Therapy helps people across the lifespan participate in things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations). Common occupational therapy interventions include helping children with disabilities to participate fully in school and social situations.
  • Physical Therapy is rehabilitation aimed at helping patients maintain, recover or improve their physical ability. Our staff of well-trained professionals works with each patient to develop and implement a plan of rehabilitation that will optimize the patient's recovery. Our therapists work hand in hand with the patient's doctor to ensure the very best rehabilitative results.
  • Speech Therapy provides life-changing treatment, support and care for children and adults who have difficulties with communication. Easter Seals Northwest Alabama employs a professional licensed Speech Therapist that works closely with parents, teachers, physicians, hearing specialists, occupational therapists and physical therapists to ensure the best possible outcomes.

SELMA

The Special Preschool Education (SPEC) program at Easterseals West Central Alabama serves children with physical, developmental and congenital disabilities.


TUSCALOOSA

Easterseals West Alabama (ESWA) offers several programs to assist children, including:

  • The Nurse-Family Partnership Program at Easterseals West Alabama is a maternal and early childhood health program that introduces vulnerable first time parents to caring professionals so they can receive support.
  • Easterseals West Alabama provides speech and language therapy services to children and adults in Tuscaloosa County, improving their communication skills, academic achievement, self-esteem, and quality of life. Our program focuses on enhancing or restoring limited or lost communicative skills or swallowing capabilities due to injury, disease, aging or congenital abnormality. Services are provided in our Easterseals outpatient clinic as well as at home, in school, and in a variety of other care settings.
  • The Easterseals West Alabama Social Security Representative Payment Program provides assistance to vulnerable members of our community: the young, the elderly, and the disabled who are unable to manage their Social Security or Supplemental Security Income benefits. ESWA representative payees receive and handle all aspects of the beneficiary's Social Security funds and advocate on their behalf.

Services for children are not offered at the Easterseals Achievement Center in Opelika.
