Nov. 16, 2022 — WHEELING, W.Va. — Ohio Valley residents have voted Easterseals Rehabilitation Center the best local physical therapy facility. The Intelligencer, Wheeling News-Register and Times Leader newspapers announced the winners today at the 2022 Readers' Choice "Best of the Ohio Valley" Gala at Wheeling Country Club.

Easterseals serves about 2,500 clients annually. Services include pediatric outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy; physical medicine and rehabilitation; child development; and autism screening and treatment.

Therapists treat clients in a variety of settings, including 1305 National Road, Wheeling; 4420 Rosemar Center, Unit 103, Parkersburg and Ohio Valley Towers Building, 500 Market St., Steubenville. Easterseals therapists also work in 16 local schools and provide in-home services through West Virginia Birth to Three. The medical team led by longtime director Dr. Ellen Kitts also sees patients in New Martinsville and will soon expand to Weirton.

The physical therapy team includes Rosanne Tucker, Kara Stidd, Krystal Wilson and Emily Eberle in Wheeling, and Kristen Kimes and Shawn Jones in Parkersburg. Melanie Skrzypek is the clinical coordinator.

Founded in Wheeling 85 years ago, the nonprofit organization's mission is to provide life-changing solutions to children and adults with disabilities and special needs and their families. Integral to that mission is serving anyone regardless of their ability to pay for services. Sixty percent of clients receive financial assistance. In order to fulfill its mission, Easterseals relies on donations from businesses and individuals. Easterseals has 31 employees and expends 18% of its income on administrative costs, well below the standard 25-35%.
