Transportation Solutions for Caregivers

Transportation is an issue vital to quality of life for older adults and their caregivers. When physical and cognitive impairments prevent older adults from driving or using public transportation, caregivers often become primary transportation providers. The following materials and ressources were developed to address this critical issue.   

	Caregiver Transportation Toolkit and Facilitator Manual Easter Seals Transportation Solutions for Caregivers: a starting point offers a video, informational booklet and a list of helpful products and resources for family caregivers and volunteer drivers of older adults with cognitive and/or physical impairments.
	Solutions Package for Volunteer Transportation Programs This is a comprehensive package of materials to inform and enhance new and existing volunteer transportation programs serving older adults and/or people with disabilities.
	Transportation Escorts for Seniors This manual describes benefits, settings, services and management of transportation escorts. It explores the area of transportation escorts within the continuum of supportive transportation options for seniors in the U.S.
	Solutions Package for Adult Day Services Transportation Programs This Solutions Package comprehensively addresses many aspects Adult Day Services transportation to support new or existing programs.
	Senior Transportation Options Template for Communities The Senior Transportation Options Template, developed in collaboration with the Beverly Foundation, is a customizable electronic template (“drop in the facts”) used in identifying all of the transportation options that are available to seniors in the typical community. It provides a framework from which to inventory and assess existing transportation options, gaps and needs. Customizable supportive materials are included for providing additional information to the community.
	The National Center for Senior Transportation (NCST) The NCST addresses the spectrum of transportation needs that allow older Americans to stay connected in their communities. The NCST develops, collects and distributes information and resources and assists communities in the expansion of transportation options for seniors. Easter Seals administers the NCST in partnership with the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) under a cooperative agreement with the Federal Transit Administration and the U.S. Administration on Aging.

Easter Seals Transportation Solutions for Caregivers was funded by the Administration on Aging's National Family Caregiver Support Program. With funds from The Retirement Research Foundation, the Local Transportation Solutions for Seniors project disseminated resources and implemented programs to further enhance senior transportation in communities across the U.S.
