Missy Christy recognizes her work with children living with special needs as a “rewarding experience.” Christy serves as a preschool teacher for Easter Seals Mahoning,Trumbull and Columbiana Counties,Ohio.
“It is amazing to watch the children’s reactions when they hit a new developmental milestone,” Christy says of her work. She finds delight in sharing new skills and accomplishments with parents when they come to pick up their child from preschool.
Such continues to be true with a young boy Christy has been working with for the past year. When he entered her classroom for the first time, he was not able to use words for communication, and he did not walk. Through interaction with his peers as well as physical, speech and occupational therapy, the boy now walks and talks. “It is just a joy to experience his new, acquired skills with his family members,” Christy says.
Christy believes one of Easter Seals’ greatest assets is the “complete package” they offer. She believes that offering a variety of therapies to children and their families allows for “huge growth” when everyone works together.
Christy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in General Studies with a focus in Education and Pre-Kindergarten and an Associate in Applies Science in Pre-Kindergarten, both from Youngstown State University.
