Diane Deskins Hastert is an attorney with Damon Key Leong Kupchak Hastert in Honolulu, Hawaii. After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and in Education from the University of Washington in 1966, Mrs. Hastert taught special education in the Seattle Public Schools. After moving to Hawaii, she earned her J.D. at the University of Hawaii, William S. Richardson School of Law. Prior to joining the firm in 1978, she was an extern to the Honorable Herbert Choy, Circuit Judge, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Mrs. Hastert’s practice focuses on complex litigation and dispute resolution.
Mrs. Hastert’s passionate commitment to public service is reflected in her extensive involvement in professional activities, including serving on the Disciplinary Board of the Hawaii Supreme Court, as a member of the Board of Bar Examiners, as a director of the William S. Richardson School of Law Alumni Association, for two terms as a delegate to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference, and as a founding director and vice chair of Meritas Law Firms Worldwide.
Her community activities have included serving as a director of Aloha United Way, the Garden Club of Honolulu, the Hawaiian Humane Society, the Hawaii Theatre Center, the League of Women Voters, and the Oahu Development Conference. A former long-time director of Goodwill Industries of Hawaii, she was named its 1985 Volunteer of the Year.
Mrs. Hastert has served as a director of Easter Seals Hawaii since 1989 through today. She served two terms as chairman (1999-2000) and over the years has served on all of the affiliate’s committees. A founding director of the Easter Seals Hawaii Foundation, she served as its president in 2001-2003, its chairman in 2004-2006, and a director in 2007-2008. She received Easter Seals Hawaii’s Laulima Award in 2003, its President’s Award in 2004, and its Chairman’s Award in 1993 and 2004 in recognition of her long-time dedication and support of Easterseals.
At the national level, Mrs. Hastert has served since 1998 through today as a member of Easter Seals House of Delegates representing Easter Seals Hawaii. Elected in October 2005 to Easter Seals Board of Directors to complete an unexpired term, and elected in October 2006 to begin her first term, she was then re-elected to second term in October 2009. In May 2013, Mrs. Hastert was elected to serve as an honorary member and in July 2013 as the chairman of the newly established Board Emeritus Group. Mrs. Hastert serves as an ex-officio member of the board, and as a member of the Public Policy Committee.
