The Grant Development & Research Director provides leadership in a variety of tasks that support Easterseals efforts to identify funding opportunities to increase philanthropic support to Easterseals. This position is responsible for conducting full range of activities required to prepare, submit and manage grant proposals to foundations, corporate and government sources (federal, state, local), and other grant-making organizations. In collaboration with the SVP of Development, s/he will develop, implement and manage a comprehensive grants program for Easterseals to advance new solutions to increase the number of people we serve and to grow earned revenue for Easterseals.
The Director of Grant Development & Research provides direction and guidance to Easterseals National Office and to Easterseals Affiliates in developing & submitting competitive grant proposals, securing public & private funding for Easterseals projects or programs, and managing funds to ensure successful execution and compliance with grantor requirements.
Conducts research, monitors grant resources, and regularly communicates with and maintains productive relationships with federal officials and others to influence grant priorities, identify and secure grants, and promote effective management of grant activities.
Provide overall daily project management of the initiative including budget, project timelines and overall compliance to grant requirements.
Prepares articles, memos, reports, analyses, and other materials relating to Easterseals grant activities.
Utilizes and maintains grant related database and resources including program data, photos, video, Easterseals stories to promote ready access to grant information, track areas of grant interest and activity, promote compliance and other activities which benefits Easterseals through grant support.
Provides grant information, technical assistance, and training to Easterseals National and Affiliate staff on effective grant submission and management.
Review and respond as appropriate to grant leads from Board members, colleagues, and/or affiliates.
Proactively identify top five prospective funders for each service line that Easterseals offers.
Maintain cycle of applying for new grants, stewarding existing grants, and meeting all reporting requirements associated with each funder.
Participate in monthly revenue budget review and update pipeline activity report for monthly conference call with Development and Marketing Committee co-chairs.
Commitment to staying abreast of rapidly changing philanthropic landscape particularly grant-making.
Leverage technology (BBCRM) to facilitate comprehensive grant process for Easterseals.
Partner with Development team to build a robust grants program on behalf of the National Office and Affiliate Network.
Ability to assemble compelling PowerPoint decks for funders on short notice.
Provide regular leads/updates on grant opportunities for individual affiliates
Assist Affiliates as need be as Affiliates pursue grant opportunities
7 years of grant specific fundraising experience. Demonstrated success in income development and securing grants and maintaining relationships with funders in anticipation of continued support via grant renewals.
Ability to partner with executive leadership, board and volunteers, as well as across departments, to achieve revenue goals
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects, establish workload priorities, and meet deadlines.
Strong problem-solver and team player
Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills
Solid planning and organizing skills to ensure work objectives are accomplished efficiently.
Extensive research capabilities
Computer literate proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Experience using Lexis-Nexis a plus
Understands and endorses the mission and values of Easterseals.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree required
7 years’ experience in all aspects of grants- research, writing, renewal, stewarding
Experience in successfully submitting federal grants of $15 million or more
Nonprofit experience required
An understanding of social service and disability services a plus
