Children's Academy

Welcome back!!

We are very excited to welcome the children back to school!

Easterseals Children’s Academy and Children’s Center will be reopening in phases.  As announced on our social media pages, here is the schedule for reopening:

We will be following the Governor’s reopening plan, which includes the following guidelines:

Arrival: The nurse will conduct a curbside health screening for the first week the centers are open (child remains in your vehicle) which includes a temperature check and parent health survey. Please be advised that your child will not be able to attend the program if your child has a temperature of 100 degrees or more, and/or other symptoms such as, but not limited to, shortness of breath, coughing, or if your child has been exposed to any COVID 19 symptoms at home. Health checks at arrival will be conducted by a trained designee until further notice.

*Please be patient with the arrival process, it is extremely important for the health and safety of everyone.*

Arrival: All children must arrive at the Children’s Academy by 9:00a.m, and at the Children’s Center by 8:30a.m.….there will be no exceptions. The nurse or trained designee will be conducting the health checks up to the specified arrival time.

When you arrive, please provide 2 changes of clothing for your child, as well as, other items such as diapers, pull-ups or wipes.

A staff member will bring your child and their personal belongings into the center once the nurse has completed the health check. Your child will wash their hands and then proceed to their assigned classroom. Parents will not have access to the building; access is strictly monitored and limited to children, staff, and janitorial staff.

Child Dismissal: In the event that your child exhibits any symptoms of illness during the day, you will be called to pick-up your child within 1 hour. Your child will be removed from the classroom and remain with a staff member who will monitor symptoms and keep your child comfortable until you arrive. A doctor’s note will be required for your child to return to school. Any COVID 19 related issues will require DPH to be contacted for guidance related to need for quarantine, time frame to return to school, additional cleaning/disinfecting and center closure.

Departure: Parents will be required to call the center (phone numbers listed below) to notify staff that you are in the parking lot and ready to pick-up your child. Please be prepared to show picture identification to enable the staff to verify your identity…given that everyone will be wearing a face mask, it may be difficult to recognize one another.

Meals: Meals will be provided by our current food vendor, they will be individual box lunches and will be delivered daily via “curbside”.  There will be no family style meals, no passing of food. A staff member will accept the delivery and bring it into the facility.

Face masks: Child face masks are available for children 3 years of age and older. It is not required; however, we will encourage the children to wear masks as tolerated.

Classroom/Playground Considerations: The teachers will encourage social distancing as much as possible, cots will be placed 6 feet apart, each child will have individual art supplies (crayons, markers, etc.) stored in zip lock bags, children will be separated while eating, clean toys will be rotated for play throughout the day, and balls, bicycles and other gross motor equipment will be disinfected after each use.

Handwashing:  Handwashing is an established routine in the classroom, children typically wash we they arrive, before and after meals, when toileting/diaper changing, and as needed during various times of the day. The teachers will be encouraging additional handwashing, your child’s skin may become dry…please apply lotion at home to keep the skin smooth and hydrated, and avoid cracked skin.

Staff Precautions: It is important for you to know that the staff will diligently follow health and safety protocols which include a daily health check and temperature check, handwashing, use of personal protection such as face masks, face shields (as required), vinyl gloves, and protective clothing.

The staff will wash and disinfect materials, toys, furniture, and flat surfaces frequently throughout the day. The janitorial staff will clean and disinfect the classrooms and common areas of the building daily.

Tuition Fees: Tuition fees will be charged beginning the week of July 6, 2020. We will resume the established procedures,  and your first payment will be due Monday, June 29, 2020 for the July 6th week of service.

Please remember that the parent-teacher relationship is essential to the care we provide to your child. Let us know if your child has expressed any fears or concerns related to COVID 19, or the changes in routines and family activities. Teachers will be available by phone, I encourage you to schedule a time for a conversation.  We expect that your child will have a period of transition and need extra TLC, they’ve been away from their school for several weeks. The staff will be caring and reassuring as they welcome your child back to school.

The Children’s Center/Children’s Academy has taken every measure to ensure the safety of the children and staff. Guidance has been provided by the Nurse Consultant, the Physician Consultant, Waterbury Public Health, Office of Early Childhood, and CDC resources. The program will follow all Ordinances from the Governor’s Office.
