“Maybe Lisa?” Finds a Home

A budding artist's masterpiece, a proud dad, and a tight bidding war

Painting of Maybe LisaDuring the 2nd Annual Ugly Sweater Party in December, our online auction sparked fierce competition. Luxurious trips, rare bottles of wine, and unique gift baskets were some of the hottest items and brought hundreds of bids. Unsurprisingly, the most fought-over items were 4 pieces of artwork created by children at our programs. One of those masterpieces found its way back to one of the original artists and her family, and they couldn’t be happier to display it in their home.

“Maybe Lisa?” was created by Sia Chang and her classmates in the waddler and toddler classrooms at Easterseals Growing Years Child Development Center in Seattle using tempera paint, crayons, and masking tape. Inspired by “The Mona Lisa” by Leonardo da Vinci, we think this is clearly the superior version—and so does Sia’s dad, Jason. When he saw the piece up for auction, he knew he had to have it. After a tough bidding war, Jason Chang became the proud owner of his daughter’s artwork.

Painting of Maybe Lisa“We're so happy to have Sia's first masterpiece from the auction. Sia loves to see her pictures with us. She holds our hands and pulls us to the painting when she wants to see "Maybe Lisa?". She points to parts of the painting and moves her hand like she's saying, ‘mom and dad, I painted here with my palms’. We're so proud of her—she did a great job with her friends in the toddlers and waddlers room.” –Jason Chang, father of the artist

We can’t wait to see what Sia and her classmates create next. Maybe, if we’re lucky, they’ll make another piece for our next auction. And maybe, if you’re really lucky, you’ll cast the winning bid and get to hang it on your wall!
