The Vocational Skills Trainer Crew Lead position is full-time, non-exempt and typically works Monday through Friday 7.5 - 8.0 hours a day.  Must be flexible to work schedules that may include evenings and weekends and periodic travel to the Greater Sacramento Area.  Janitorial floor care skills (carpets, waxing/buffing) a must!

Basic Responsibilities:

Direct Service:

  • Work alongside clients at janitorial and/or landscaping work sites to provide training and ensure the work is completed to the job site’s/ volunteer site’s satisfaction and to provide the     highest quality service.
  • Check client work and production performance and retrain client/ crews as needed.
  • Assist the client in identifying vocational strengths, skills, and need areas prior to ISP meeting.
  • Ensure that crew member’s goals are measurable and applicable to work/training being performed.
  • Coordinate with client and other team members and conduct client’s Individual Service Plan (ISP) meetings held semi-annually, annually, and as required.
  • Assist clients in identifying needs for accommodations, adaptive equipment, or assistive technology that increases client’s ability to increase productivity/vocational independence.
  • Provide vocational training through crew work, production work, community volunteer work, pre-vocational activities or downtime training to clients either internally or externally.
  • Prepare and distribute a monthly calendar of instructional training, volunteer opportunities and available community activities.
  • Assist in the development of job descriptions including task analysis for client vocational training on specific jobs.
  • Ensure all client paperwork are completed and submitted.
  • Ensure all applicable time studies are completed and updated to finance as appropriate semi-annually.
  • Complete all mandatory Easter Seals/Cal-OSHA/worksite trainings with crew members annually or as needed.
  • Pick up/deliver work service contract supplies as needed.
  • Transport clients to work sites when necessary.
  • Cross train on all contract work both paid and volunteer to meet the needs of the agency.
  • Attend all team meetings as scheduled and required.
  • Provide exceptional customer services, both internally and externally.


Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED is recommended; or one (1) year full time experience working with individuals with physical and/or mental disabilities; or an equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • 1-2 years previous janitorial and/or landscaping experience, to include floor care expertise.

Language Skills

  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Effective interpersonal communication techniques.
  • Follow written and verbal directions.
  • Effectively be able to present information and respond to questions from supervisor, case managers, clients and the general public.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and use available resources.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain composure and good judgement under stressful conditions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, clients, and the general public.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Positions Requires:

  • Possession of a current valid California driver's license, proof of liability insurance, and a good driving record.
  • Fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice.
  • Current certificate(s) in Adult CPR with A.E.D. and Basic First Aid.
  • Proof of a TB clearance within twelve (12) months prior to hire.
  • Pre-placement back assessment and physical.
  • Must be willing to acquire a PIV badge

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $16.00 to $18.00 /hour DOE
