Housing Specialist, Supportive Services for Veteran Families (Salem, OR)

The Housing Specialist is tasked with engaging, recruiting, and retaining landlords, conducting housing consultations with veterans enrolled in the program, identifying housing options for program participants, and training staff members and program participants in subject areas such as landlord retention and landlord/tenant rights and responsibilities.

Basic Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, engage, and retain landlords in order to identify available permanent housing stock for veterans and their families.
  • Coordinate the placement of program participants into housing and work cooperatively with the housing inspector to ensure that all units pass inspection.
  • Provide education, guidance, and resources to program participants in order to support their housing search and retention.
  • Conduct informational meetings with housing authorities and community partners.
  • Stay abreast of best practices and emerging trends in homeless services, affordable housing, and permanent housing.
  • Maintain housing databases and regular correspondence with landlords.
  • Assist in the development of new housing opportunities to benefit program participants.
  • Conduct housing consultations collaboratively with case managers and program participants.
  • Deliver training to staff and program participants in the subject areas of landlord retention, landlord/tenant rights and responsibilities, and housing development/operating models relevant to homeless services.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and perform job responsibilities in accordance with the rules and regulations of Easterseals Oregon, Department of Veterans Affairs and the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program.
  • Attend all required meetings, both within Easterseals Oregon and in the community.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education, Certification and Experience

  • Associate's degree with emphasis in human services related area or two years of equivalent relevant experience
  • Two years of administrative, communications, or human services related experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and good organizational skills
  • Experience working with computers, knowledge of Windows environment and experience with databases
