Community Based Individual Support Program (CBIS)

The CBIS program provides individuals with an intellectual and/or developmental disability the assistance of a Direct Support Professional (DSP) on a one-to-one basis. Our DSPs work with an individual both in their home and out in the community to achieve or maintain the goals and objectives that have been identified in their Service Plan. Participation in community-based individual supports provides the opportunity for increased independence and personal growth.

Easterseals makes it a priority to match DSP candidates to family & participant desires. We ensure high quality service by hiring flexible staff and training them to employ a wide-range of essential skills. In addition, our DSPs are required to attend training in CPR, first-aid, crisis management and more. These trainings ensure that the individual being served will be safe and their privacy respected. CBIS provides education in or direct assistance with the following:

  • Cooking
  • Bathing
  • Recreational activities
  • Community outings
  • Transporting from home to work
  • Socialization
  • Personal hygiene
  • Computer and technology usage
  • and more

Eligible participants must be a Medicaid eligible adult (21+) with an intellectual/developmental disability.
