The Transitions program has a heavy focus on community employment preparation, post-secondary counseling, and community inclusion. Participants are encouraged to pursue employment goals, explore education opportunities, and learn independent living skills.

While other organizations may consider transition-age individuals to be those leaving high school, Easterseals Arc believes that individuals can transition to greater independence at any age. Therefore, our Transitions program serves any individual 18 or older who is unsure of their career or education pathway.

Transitions is a day program based at Easterseals Arc’s Coldwater Road facility.  However, participants go far beyond our building. The program provides hands-on experience along with an 18-week mentorship for participants to get them accustomed to employment and inclusion at the same time.  In addition to employment, program participants engage in “a day away” once a quarter, in which Easterseals Arc staff will accompany participants out of the city  to explore new surroundings. The program also collaborates with local colleges to expose program participants to the resources and opportunities around them.

Quick Facts About Transitions

Hours: Transitions is available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (except major holidays).

Participant-to-staff ratios: Our groups have ratios of 10-to-1 or 4-to-1 based on the needs of the participants.

Transportation: Easterseals Arc can provide transportation to and from the facility for a limited number of individuals. If we cannot provide transportation, individuals are responsible for providing their own. However, we can give you information regarding transportation services.

Medical Care: All staff are trained on first aid and dispensing medication and are CPR certified. Also, each staff member is trained on each client’s specific information. Nurses and a nurse practitioner are accessible in emergency situations.

Employment Readiness Academy: All Transitions participants who have a goal of community employment have the opportunity to apply for our Employment Readiness Academy. This is a unique program that combines classroom instruction and hands-on work experience in an 18-week paid internship. The Academy began as a partnership between Easterseals Arc and Lutheran Hospital and has expanded to now include St. Joseph Hosptial and Parkview Hospital Randallia.
