Our Employment Readiness Academy is a mentorship program enabling people with disabilities to learn workplace skills while contributing to the daily operations of an organization. The program was launched at Lutheran Hospital in November 2015; since then it has grown and now features sites at Lutheran Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and Parkview Hospital Randallia. Other partner sites have included SIRVA, Ivy Tech Community College, and the YMCA.
Small groups of four to six individuals are chosen for an intensive 18-week hands-on training experience to prepare them for the workforce. Participants learn general skills for workplace success using the “Skills to Pay the Bills” curriculum in addition to learning job-specific skills through mentorships in various departments and jobs of the selected mentorship sites.
Participants who complete the academy gain skills and experience that help them find employment success in the community.
Eligibility: Individuals receiving Vocational Rehabilitation Services can select Easterseals Arc as their employment provider and apply for the Employment Readiness Academy. If you currently participate in Easterseals Arc’s Transitions or Projects Drive Group programs but don’t have Vocational Rehabilitation Services we can help you apply.
Hours: Typical hours are 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; however, the schedule may vary depending on the needs of the host business.
Transportation: Each participant must provide his or her own transportation.
Dress code: Easterseals Arc or the host business will provide any required apparel. Aside from required apparel, participants are expected to wear neat, clean clothing appropriate for the workplace.
