Community Employment

Employment is a significant part of independence, and Easterseals Arc is committed to helping clients who are willing and able to work find and keep jobs. As a Vocational Rehabilitation Services provider, we assist people with disabilities as they prepare for, obtain, and retain employment.

In addition to assisting job seekers, we also work directly with local employers to explore their staffing needs and help them understand how Easterseals Arc clients can fill those needs. This creates a dynamic collaboration that benefits both employers and job seekers.

Community employment services are customized based upon a consumer’s needs. Services may include:

While our goal is to place clients in long-term employment, other opportunities to identify interests and skills while gaining experience may include:

Employment Readiness Academy

The Employment Readiness Academy is a unique mentorship program launched in 2015. Small groups of individuals are chosen for an intensive 18-week hands-on training experience during which they gain skills and confidence to prepare them for the workforce. Sites include Lutheran Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, Parkview Hospital Randallia and Parkview Family YMCA.

Learning Labs

With funding from the City of Fort Wayne, Easterseals Arc is building three learning and simulation labs to help prepare individuals for jobs in manufacturing, hospitality and health care.

Extended Services

Extended services are work-related supports that help individuals succeed after they have obtained community employment. Services may include job-specific safety training; training to increase workplace inclusion; training on public transportation; coaching on job-related tasks; facilitation of driver's education training; and other services to reinforce and stabilize the job placement.

Workplace Assistance

Workplace Assistance provides personal care services and supports during community employment hours to ensure the health and safety of the individual, therefore helping them retain employment. Examples of workplace assistance include help with meals, hygiene, and medication administration.

Ticket to Work

Easterseals Arc is designated as an Employment Network for the Ticket to Work program through the Social Security Administration.
