Cassidy was born 3 ½ months prematurely and only weighed 1 pound, 5 ounces. From the very start she was a fighter. The doctors and her family were not sure what Cassidy’s future would be like. Today Cassidy is 19 years old. Her family was told that she would have to work very hard in order to be at the same level as other children her age and she was placed in special education classes. It’s a good thing that Cassidy is a hard working girl because eventually her achievement scores were so high that she no longer needed special education.
She turned to Easterseals Michigan after several other options didn’t seem to work for her. “Before Easterseals Michigan I felt helpless”, says Cassidy, “now I don’t feel that way anymore.”
Cassidy has devoted her life to being a voice for others. She has made huge strides in her treatment. Last year she reached a major milestone by graduating high school and enrolling at Macomb Community College. She also started her own YouTube channel and is a very big advocate in her community, speaking up for people with disabilities, especially individuals who have been misdiagnosed. She is a true champion for others!
