Michelle was referred to us by the Office of Behavioral Health. At that time, she was living on the streets. Originally from New Orleans, Michelle became homeless after she and her family lost everything during Hurricane Katrina. Michelle and her family evacuated to Texarkana, TX. After a few weeks in the shelter her family decided to go their separate ways. During this time Michelle experienced her first mental break.

After being hospitalized, Michelle moved to Shreveport but had no supports in place. While at Easter Seals Louisiana's Mid-City program, which helps transition people dealing with behavioral health problems into a more stable living situation, Michelle obtained medical and financial benefits. She eventually enrolled at Southern University in Shreveport where she maintains a 3.5 GPA and is majoring in Human Services!

Michelle hopes to work with a non-profit after graduating and helping others find their way on life. Congrats Michelle!
