Behavioral Health Services

Easterseals Louisiana has a longstanding tradition of providing services to some of Louisiana’s most vulnerable citizens. From the 1950s through to the present, Easterseals has worked with people with developmental, intellectual, and physical disabilities. The advent of the Americans with Disabilities Act allowed Easterseals, both nationally and in Louisiana, the ability to broaden its scope of populations to work with. It was recognized that people with behavioral health challenges are also some of our most vulnerable citizens, so Easterseals felt that it was in keeping with tradition to extend services to people with chronic mental health issues.

Beginning in 2008, Easterseals began providing services to the homeless population in Shreveport. In 2009, we began a crisis response and intervention programs.

Over the course of subsequent years, Easterseals has developed a nice profile of mental health services in the Shreveport and Monroe areas. Newer programs are in New Orleans, and the Florida Parishes area. A thread that runs through all our mental health programming is our longstanding ability to provide high quality complex care management services for people most in need.

Current behavioral health programming includes:

We utilize a Housing First approach, which dictates that housing is quickly provided without pre-conditions (i.e. poor credit, criminal record, employment, etc.) placed on the clients.

Florida Parishes Area (i.e. Hammond, Slidell, and Mandeville)

Mental Health Case Management: Complex care coordination for people with chronic mental health issues, with a goal to maintain contact with service recipients for up to a year via wellness checks in an effort to help prevent a highly vulnerable population from “falling through the cracks” over time. This program is a partnership with the Florida Parishes Human Services Authority to provide this service in 3 of their mental health clinics in the Florida Parishes area.
