Variety Logo SmallEasterseals Iowa has received $35,915 from Variety - the Children’s Charity to fund sound reduction materials for the Variety Rec Center and Bob and Billie Ray Child Development Center at Easterseals Iowa Camp Sunnyside.

Easterseals Iowa serves all of our state’s 99 counties. We provide services and supports for individuals with disabilities, and their families, to have equal opportunities and to live with independence in our Iowa communities.

Camp Sunnyside provides year-round camping and recreational services to children with disabilities and is open to children with any type of disability or special need. Our Child Development Center provides education in an integrated setting where children with and without disabilities ages six weeks to five years old have the opportunity to learn and grow together in a fun and unique environment.
The addition of sound control materials in these facilities will make it a more welcoming environment.

President/CEO of Easterseals Iowa Sherri Nielsen says, “While the obvious benefit of installing these sound absorbing panels is to decrease the volume levels in these two structures, the less obvious benefits are key to our mission.  Many of our campers experience sensory overload very quickly when they are in an overly loud environment.  Our goal is always to mitigate these risks by providing a welcoming environment where everyone can be successful.

Because of the generosity of Variety - the Children’s Charity to provide funding for these sound reduction materials, we could very well decrease the number of campers who require 1:1 support.  If we are able to do this, we can serve even more families.”

Variety - the Children’s Charity is dedicated to improving the lives of children who are at-risk, underprivileged, critically ill, or living with special needs. Grant funding is provided to programs and initiatives that directly impact the well-being of children. For more information about Variety grants and programs, visit varietyiowa.org.
