Des Moines metro police and fire departments will enjoy some friendly competition and raise money for Easterseals Iowa and Camp Sunnyside at the 14th annual Guns N Hoses Charity Hockey game February 9.

The event takes place at the Des Moines Buccaneers Arena at 7201 Hickman Rd, Urbandale, Iowa, on Saturday, February 9 at 2:00 p.m. (doors open at 1:00 p.m.).  Purchase tickets at the Buccaneers Box Office or online at www.bucshockey.com.  Tickets also include admission to the Des Moines Buccaneers vs. Omaha Lancers game at 7:05 p.m. following the Guns N Hoses Charity Hockey Game.  A silent auction and jersey auction will take place during the events.

If you'd like to support the event but are unable to attend the game, donations can be mailed to Serve Credit Union, 423 East Court, Des Moines, IA 50309. Put Guns N Hoses in the memo line.

A Donut Drive that took place February 1 at the Bucs Arena raised more than $2,600. Patrons drove through, made a donation and received a donut. Fareway Stores donated the donuts and Dr. Pepper Snapple Group had coffe on hand.
Sergeant Jeff Cronin has been a part of the Guns and Hoses Charity Hockey game since the beginning. He says, “What started out as something fun that won you bragging rights, has turned into a very important event for us that we capitalize on to raise funds for a nonprofit in our community each year. We want to have something we can see, that makes a tangible difference. Easterseals Iowa has been a great partner and supporter of Des Moines Police and Fire, and we know our dollars will make a difference in their programming.”

Allison Piazza, Director or Corporate Relationships with Easterseals Iowa said, “Easterseals Iowa will use proceeds from Guns N Hoses to fill a need for transition-age youth with disabilities during summer programming and respite weekends. The funds will allow us to create a Teen Center at Camp Sunnyside, with recreational equipment and supports that meet the needs of young adults transitioning into adulthood. We are honored to receive this incredibly generous donation from our friends at the Des Moines police and fire departments.”

Proceeds from the Donut Drive and Guns N Hoses benefit Easterseals Iowa in Des Moines. Easterseals Iowa provides exceptional services to ensure all people with disabilities or special needs, and their families, have equal opportunities to live, learn, work and play in our Iowa communities.
