April 15, 2021, was a bittersweet day for us at Easterseals Serving Greater Cincinnati. It was the last day of work for Mario Thomas. He recently accepted his first job in the community – the latest in a long series of #BreakthroughMoments.
Mario’s story with Easterseals dates back more than 20 years. He fell out a window as a young child, which resulted in serious injuries and permanent disabilities. From that time on, Mario beat the odds and defied his doctor’s predictions.
He graduated from Taft High School and wanted to join the workforce. He connected with Easterseals and made continuous, steady progress on his goals.
Mario has grown to become one of the most familiar faces at Easterseals. He worked with countless volunteer groups at our Production & Fulfillment Center in Walnut Hills, showing them the proper way to assemble clinical testing kits used by Medpace in medical research. Long before that, Mario was our very first greeter at Building Value, where he also prepared appliances for recycling.
“Work is important to me,” Mario said in 2018 as Easterseals honored Medpace as its Outstanding Community Partner. “My job makes me feel happy.”
In 2013, Mario was honored at our Brighter Futures Celebration with the Spirit of Easterseals Award. This is a special recognition for someone who goes out of their way to help others, serves as a peer role model, and consistently displays an upbeat, positive attitude.
“We are so proud of how far he has come,” Pam Green said of celebrating Mario’s latest accomplishment.
Thank you to everyone who has invested in Easterseals for making Mario’s journey possible!
