Helping veterans and their families connect to services and resources
Easterseals Military & Veteran Services works with a broad range of veterans to ensure they lead successful and fulfilling lives as civilians. That often hinges upon their ability to access their benefits ... which can be a challenge in itself.
Veterans can benefit from a wide range of government resources, and a growing number of private and non-profit organizations are anxious to give-back to veterans in recognition of their service. A number of community organizations have developed programs to assist veterans with needs not addressed by their government benefits.
Unfortunately, many veterans still fall through the cracks. They are either not aware of their full range of benefits and choices, or they don’t know how to access them. Plus, veterans often have difficulty asking for help, especially in their personal lives; as young service members, they were taught to take pride in self-sufficiency and to value resourcefulness. Other veterans with less than an honorable discharge may not be eligible for services when they are needed most.
Easterseals Military & Veteran Services Community OneSource bridges that disconnect in Greater Cincinnati by connecting veterans with contacts at the organizations that will meet their needs. Easteseals has brought together a number of local organizations with veterans services to help our local veterans successfully navigate the resources available to them.
Community OneSource responds to requests from veterans or their families looking for:
- Veterans benefits information
- Caregiver resources
- Education benefits specialists
- Financial assistance resources
- Benefits for seniors
- Employment assistance services
- Available housing options
- Local child care providers
- Counseling services
- Legal Aid services
- Healthcare options
- And more ...
Veterans and their families who request information or assistance from Community OneSource will be presented with the public, private, and not-for-profit resources most suited to their needs, allowing them to focus their time on the most viable options. Community OneSource (COS) has helped veterans find solutions to specific needs:
- Assisted a Student Veteran with food and fuel resources while waiting for GI Bill paperwork to clear.
- Assisted a local Veteran to prevent home foreclosure.
- Connected a homeless veteran with a non-profit organization able to provide rental payments for three months while the veteran was actively seeking employment.
