Youth Apprenticeships

Ready to make your mark on the Cincinnati skyline? Easterseals can take your career to the next level in one of the many registered construction apprenticeship programs in Greater Cincinnati.

The Easterseals Youth Apprenticeship Initiative is designed for young adults ages 16 – 24 who are ready to find their place in the world of construction. If you enjoy working with your hands and learning something new every day, you belong here!

Construction is a rewarding career you can be proud of. Imagine pointing to a hospital, a high rise, a stadium, or even a neighborhood of new homes and telling your family and friends, “I helped to build that.”

What’s even better, careers in construction pay very well with great benefits. And with so many of today’s construction workforce nearing retirement age, the demand for skilled workers is only going up. That makes this the perfect time to get started.

According to the US Department of Labor, 94% of those who complete an apprenticeship program retain employment with an average annual salary of $70,000.

What is an apprenticeship?

Apprenticeship is like going to college, except you get paid to learn and graduate without adding any student loan debt. Apprentices are considered employees who are paid for on-the-job learning and job-related classroom learning.

The length of your apprenticeship will vary based on the type of career you are training for and your employer. But all apprenticeships have five key components according to the US Department of Labor:

  • It’s a paid job. Apprentices earn a competitive wage from their employers during training. Many apprenticeships will include regular pay increases as you build up your training hours and master new skills.
  • Work-based learning. Apprenticeships provide structured, on-the-job training to prepare you for a successful career.
  • Classroom learning. There will be some classroom-based instruction on the critical aspects of your new career.
  • Mentorship. You will have experienced mentors teaching you their craft and guiding you on how to grow your career.
  • Credentials. The credentials you earn in your apprenticeship are incredibly valuable. They show future employers the skills you have that set you apart from other job applicants. Some colleges and universities will also apply them toward academic credits for college degrees.
