The Easter Seals El Mirador Community Scholarship Fund seeks to honor the Northern Communities of Rio Arriba and Santa Fe. For over 42 years Easter Seals El Mirador (ESEM) has provided intermediate care for individuals with intellectual disabilities throughout Northern New Mexico. ESEM is an organization dedicated to providing integrated community care in residential and day habilitation services from Alcalde New Mexico to Santa Fe. Ensuring that individuals served through the recruitment and development of a direct care workforce will enhance continued quality care
The ESELM Scholarship Fund pays tribute to the agency’s long-standing presence in the Northern Communities by providing academic work scholarships to students interested in pursuing a college degree while working part time in a rewarding healthcare field with an exceptional population. This includes all disciplines as long as students are willing to embrace knowledge and appreciation of supporting the needs of this special population.
The ESEM Fund is managed by the ESEM Scholarship Committee who awards scholarships each semester. Scholarships are awarded based upon the availability of funds and qualifying criteria determined by the ESEM Board of Directors. Selection criteria for all scholarships include, but are not limited to the following: 20 hours of direct care per week at ESEM Facilities, leadership, academic accomplishments and commitment to intellectual disabilities; two letters of reference and support; and completed background check for employment through New Mexico Department of Health.
Scholarships are awarded for each semester of academic study. Awardees shall not assume they are eligible for renewal or additional scholarships from ESEM, however, students are eligible to apply each semester. Scholarship awardees will provide 20 paid service hours per week for the $1,000 scholarship increment to ESEM programs during the academic semester. ESEM pays scholarship funds directly to students at the end of each semester providing the student successfully works 20 hours per week at ESEM facilities with a positive employment record, contingent on maintaining a 3.0 GPA (or above) along with proof of grades from the previous semester and maintained full-time enrollment.
The ESEM Scholarship Fund awards scholarships without regard to race, age, creed, religion, disability, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation, but due to the primary mission and purpose, scholarship is given to individuals who complete 20 hours of direct care per week throughout the semester. Direct Care Work hours at an ESEM facility will pay the student $11.40 per hour.
