Summary:

The Director of the Child Development Center is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising the Child Development Center program. The mission, vision, goals, and objectives of Easterseals DuPage & Fox Valley will be the driving force enabling the accomplishment of these responsibilities.

Basic Responsibilities:

A. Develops and Coordinates the Child Development Center Program

  • Works with applicable staff to develop annual departmental budget.
  • Creates and oversees departmental budget and billings functions for the department.
  • Maintains departmental compliance with state (DCFS) licensing regulations as well as with other accrediting bodies.
  • Participates, as needed, in Center meetings.
  • Insures that supplies and equipment are maintained, ordered and available in a timely manner.
  • Maintains records
  • Manages marketing for the department in consultation with the Center’s P.R. department.
  • Supervises the development, review, and evaluation of program policies.
  • Maintains knowledge of child care trends, both national and local.
  • Coordinates programs, as designed by grants, involving child development and related services.  
  • Participates in overall Center program management meetings.
  • Serves on Health, Safety, Security and Accessibility Committee.

B. Supervises and Coordinates the Activities of the Child Development Staff.

  • Participates in the recruitment, hiring, retention and termination of all department staff.
  • Oversees the orientation, scheduling, and supervision of all department staff.
  • Conducts regular staff meetings.
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations and collaboratively develops staff professional development plans no less than annually of assigned personnel.
  • Provides opportunities for department staff to bring up program ideas, concerns, and problems for further consideration.
  • Provides communication of Center issues and activities to members of the department and vice versa.
  • Schedules meetings with supervisor to communicate Child Development Center program developments and concerns.
  • Supervises training of all new Child Development staff.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Child Development or related field.
2. Experience as director of a child care center preferred.
3. Experience working with children who have special needs preferred.
4. Three years' experience in the early childhood field required.
5. Must meet all DCFS requirements.
