Easterseals Celebrates Direct Support Professionals

August 24, 2018

National Direct Support Professional Week officially is observed September 9-15, 2018, but at Easterseals we appreciate and recognize the contributions of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) every day.

Easterseals and other disability service provider organizations depend on DSPs to care for the people we serve. Also referred to as caregivers, personal care assistants, direct care or homecare aides, DSPs are integral in supporting people with disabilities so they are able to participate in their communities and lead full and independent lives.

Two Easterseals Direct Support Professionals recently were recognized as part of the “2018 DSP Day Awards Ceremony & Luncheon” honoring the top DSPs in the State of Delaware. Ebony Keaton, who is a Senior Activity Assistant in the Easterseals Adult Day Care program in Georgetown, received an Honorable Mention for the 2018 Direct Support Professionals Day Star Award.

Larry Manokey, who is a Community Supports Specialist in Supported Employment services in Sussex County, received Honorable Mention for the 2018 Direct Support Professionals Community Excellence Award category.

“DSPs make a difference not only in the lives of the people with disabilities that we serve and their families, but also to the community as a whole,” said Ken Sklenar, President/CEO of Easterseals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore. “We celebrate the invaluable role that DSPs play in our organization and applaud them for the sometimes challenging, but always meaningful, work that they do every day.”
