This is a Leadership and Teamwork training program, sponsored by Rotary Clubs in the Rocky Mountain Region and Easterseals Colorado, governed by the Rocky Mountain Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RM-RYLA) Board.
RYLA Plus is uniquely designed to offer an outstanding leadership and teamwork development program for high schoolers, while also accommodating those with physical limitations and personal care needs. Hence, the RYLA Plus program supports high schoolers who have physical disabilities through use of Easterseals Colorado's fully ADA-compliant camp in Empire, Colorado (Rocky Mountain Village) and their trained nursing and counselor personnel. In addition, the Rotary Senior and Junior Counselors make this learning conference a life-changing experience, while having fun and making new friends. There are interesting inspirational speakers and team-building activities every day that motivate our conferees to understand the basic principles of leadership and teamwork, while also enjoying the outdoor ADA facilities such as the swimming pool, fishing pond, climbing wall, and zipline. The 2020 conference will be held from mid-day August 2 to mid-day August 7.
This leadership development camp is FREE to all conferees through sponsorships provided by Rotary clubs in our area, along with additional funding from Easterseals Colorado and Comcast.
Prior conferees have said this program gave them the motivation and self-confidence to pursue goals beyond their original expectations. Parents of conferees have seen changes in their teenagers as well, and Rotarians who participate as counselors are inspired by the courage and positive attitudes these conferees exhibit. Our best conferees will also become future Junior Counselors or event the Head Junior Counselor, who runs the program of activities. Conferees have said that this experience has changed their attitude about what they could achieve in life, and parents are awed at the positive changes they have seen in their own teenager!
