Level 1 Introduction to Water Skills - No Prerequisites
Level 2 Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Prerequisites- Level 1 completed or has the following skills:Blow bubbles while bobbing 5 times * Front float (10 seconds) * Back float (10 seconds) * Comfortable with front crawl * Glide 2 body lengths on stomach * Learning to tread water * Comfortable with Chicken-Airplane-Soldier
Level 3 Stroke Development
Prerequisites - Level 2 completed or has the following skills: Bob (10 times) * Front crawl with breathing (full length & back) * Back crawl (full length & back) * Tread (15 seconds or more) * Knee surface dive with face in water * Retrieve an object from pool bottom (4 or 5 feet deep) * Torpedo 2 body lengths * Front float then roll to back float (both directions) * Familiar with back glide
Additional Aquatic Programs
A water safety and aquatic social skills class focused on helping children with Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder thrive. The goals of this class include helping your child improve water safety, social skills, motor planning, and sensory processing ability in a warm water setting. This class is lead by a licensed therapist and a swim instructor/lifeguard. Families will also receive educational videos that correspond with the lessons learned each session. Semi-Private, Private, and Adaptive Swim Lessons are available for children 4 years old through 10 years of age. Lessons will address skill levels I-Introduction to Water Skills, II-Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills and III-Stroke Development. Our instructors are certified through the American Red Cross and classes are based upon the American Red Cross swimming progression. Cost is $90.00 for semi-private/adaptive lessons and $150.00 for private/adaptive lessons. Lessons are scheduled one time per week, for eight weeks, for 30 minutes according to instructor availability. Splashercise is a warm water exercise class for children with disabilities or specific diagnoses age six through eighteen. The class is led by a licensed therapist who will focus on age-appropriate strengthening, range of motion and stretching, weight bearing, balance and endurance activities in a warm water medium. Participants who will benefit from the class may include children or adolescents with status post orthopedic surgery, juvenile arthritis, spina bifida, cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy, diabetes and asthma. Participants must be able to maintain head above water and stand in 3-4 feet of water (exceptions may be made for certain diagnoses). A physician consent form is required. Cost is $65.00 for six-week sessions. Classes are on Tuesday at 5:15-6:00 p.m.To register for a class contact the Aquatics Supervisor at 309.686.1177
