Illinois Experiential Practicum for Autism

Illinois Autism Partnership (IAP) builds the capacity of school districts statewide so they may provide effective programming for students with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Easterseals offers school districts an amazing opportunity with a wide-range of options including individualized coaching, consulting, family engagement and training programs.

The IAP team is an impressive and talented group of autism specialists, providing teachers, paraprofessionals and clinicians at school districts with hands on training.

While a majority complete training during the school year, Easterseals offers a summer program providing a series of week-long trainings called the Illinois Experiential Practicum for Autism (IEPA) to provide general education, special education, administrators, social workers and clinicians the opportunity to gain more confidence before reentering the classroom in the fall.

This summer, more than 100 educators from across the state participated in one of three IEPA trainings. They learned a wide range of evidence-based practices through hands-on activities in classroom settings specially equipped for students with autism. "Participants had the opportunity to develop their skills in the areas of curriculum development, behavior/communication supports, social skills, and inclusion with typical peers,” said Sarah Smith, Manager of Training, IAP.
