  1. Matching: Place all the socks in one area, make a match and then ask your child to help find some more matches. Talk about the different colors, patterns, sizes and this is a perfect activity for laundry day, while you fold clothes. Some children are ready for several pairs at once while some children need to start with 2 or 3 VERY distinct pairs of socks in order to continue understanding the concept of pairing and matching.  Even for little children who cannot yet match, this is still a great activity for talking about size and color, or having some fun sensory exploration!

  2. Motor Movement and Listening:  Play “Simon Says”!  With toddlers- Simon ALWAYS says.  (Simon says, touch your nose!  Simon Says, run!  Simon says, stop!  Simon says, lay down! Etc.)

  3. Small Motor Skills:  Take a strainer and place it upside down on a flat surface, provide pipe cleaners (alternative would be dry sticks of spaghetti or shoe strings with a stiff end) and allow the child to practice putting them through the holes.
