Move like an animal: Find a space that allows for large movement (preferably the yard if possible). Choose animals based on toys or books the children are already familiar with. For example- flip through an animal book and try the animals on each page. You can also just think of animals together. Older kids may be able to choose the animal or guess how the animal walks. Little ones might enjoy watching you or having your help them to “move” like that too.
Here are some examples you might try:
Be creative and choose animals your kids like!
Self Help: Set up an area in the room so that your child can pick their own clothes. Easiest way: take a medium container (shoe box, cloth storage bin), place two complete outfits in there (shirts, pants, socks, etc.), place the container under your child’s bed, allow your child to pick their outfit every day. Even very little children are interested in reaching/grabbing which you can treat as their choice! Describe what they picked. “OH, I see you grabbed the box with the dinosaur t-shirt and blue shorts!”
Art/Small Motor Skills: Cut strips of stickers 10 per strip. Provide an inviting piece of paper for the child to transfer the stickers. Help your child at the level they need (can they get the sticker off by themselves? If you start it for them? Can they hold it between 2 fingers if you give it to them or do you need to just stick it on their finger for them?)
