Save the Date Virtual Family Workshops presented by Star Net Region 5 Positive Solutions for Families: Making a Connection!
This webinar will provide information for families on how to promote children’s social and emotional skills, understand their problem behavior, and use positive approaches to help children learn appropriate behavior. Throughout this webinar participants will identify the importance of building positive relationships with children and discuss the “power” of using positive comments and encouragement with children. This workshop is intended for families. NO professional development credits will be given.
Music and Movement: Scarf or Ribbon Dance- Grab some scarves, ribbons, or long pieces of fabric and dance to the music using your materials as props https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYnv7zfjJ-Q
Watering Plants: Provide an opportunity for your child to assist in watering plants, whether they are indoor or outdoor plants. Provide a small pitcher or watering can and if that is not available use a cup with a handle. This simple activity practices hand-eye coordination by pouring/dumping, gives you the opportunity to talk about plants why we water them, and it teaches empathy due to caring for another living thing.
Rainy Day Activity: take garden gloves or hands (if you’re brave enough), go digging for worms! This is a great sensory experience, children learn about science as they see what is in the dirt and find worms, and it provides them with more fine motor practice. As you dig, talk about what you see, how it feels, the tools you are using, mud vs. dirt, etc. Offer new/interesting descriptive words as you can think of them such as mushy, goop, squishy, slimy, etc.
