More people than ever before are being diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Tens of millions of individuals worldwide live with autism, a developmental disability considered the result of a neurological condition affecting normal brain function, development and social interactions. Individuals living with autism find it difficult or impossible to relate to other people in a meaningful way and may show restrictive and/or repetitive patterns of behavior or body movements.
The reputation and impact of Easterseals has increased because of the unfailing commitment to change the way the world defines and views disabilities by making profound, positive differences in people's lives every day. Our focus on the mission has remained steady for more than 80 years by providing cutting edge services and progressive educational programming to individuals living with autism and other disabilities. Together, we successfully achieved the goal of raising funds to build the state-of-the-art Easterseals Academy-Chicago completed in 2008. The campus is located in the Illinois Medical District and currently serves 120 students. The school continues to surpass its goals in attempts to meet the demanding need of providing individualized therapeutic education for students with significant behavioral and emotional needs.
