Tangles and Knots Hair Salon Gives Back

Generous Event Donates School Supplies, Haircuts and Manicures

New Bern, NC, August 24, 2018

Foster Children in the Easterseals UCP Child Placement Program got a big treat this year.  Gay Miller, owner of Tangles and Knots Hair Salon in New Bern opened her salon for a private event for foster children to get haircuts and manicures. 

2018 hair salonThis special event had children smiling as hairstylists primped them – making their back to school more enjoyable.  Not only did Tangles and Knots Hair Salon provide free haircuts and manicures, they raised donations and collected new school supplies as well.

“We are grateful to Gay Miller and the staff at Tangles and Knots Hair Salon for their outpouring of love and generosity to the foster children in the New Bern program,” said Deanna Cornett, Director of Easterseals UCP Foster Care Program in North Carolina.

Each child left the event with a great new look, a full backpack of new school supplies, and feeling confident and prepared to start the new school year.

foster care“Why wouldn’t you do it?” said Gay Miller, Tangles and Knots Hair Salon owner.  She said, “I think we should all give back to our community.  I cut hair and that’s all I know how to do so this was my way of giving back.  The kids need to know that someone cares.  We care.”

Half a million children and teens are in the Foster Care system nationwide. In North Carolina, more than 11,000 children are living in the state foster care system. Easterseals UCP assists 270 foster care children in North Carolina every year, serving about 135 children at any given time with the goal to help more children.
